Life is definitely a journey. Some parts of the winding road of life feel like a sub journey. Many of you have followed Jason and I during my CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) treatment and ongoing victory. We are so appreciative of so many people who have prayed and encouraged us along the way. Now, we are sharing another piece of our life.
Over the last 15 years, we have had a heart for adoption. Honestly we thought that we would have adopted children by now but this has been a journey in itsself for us. Along the way, we have looked into international adoption as well as foster to adopt and have been met with many closed doors. Then, all efforts were stalled for several years with my diagnosis and treatment of CLL. I honestly prayed many times that God would take away my desire to be a mom and adopt. Well, that desire has only become stronger as the years have passed.
As Jason and I moved into our new home in 2023, we met a sweet couple who lives 2 doors down that we watched have a successful adoption experience. After that, we knew it was time to attempt our own private adoption. We know that private adoptions are expensive and stressful at times. We also knew that God was tugging at us to step out in faith.
In February of 2024, we had our first discussion with a representative of the agency that our neighbors used for their adoption. Then, we spent the next 6 months filling out the initial extensive application that we completed in August. Within weeks, we received knowledge of background check approvals and started the Home Study process. After those were completed, we compiled a photo book to be viewed by potential birth families which was finished before the end of 2024. Now, we are in January of 2025 and waiting for a birth family match and placement soon after.
Due to the expense of over $45,000 for private adoptions in the United States, we also have the heart to start a charity in order to help other families who long to adopt as well, so we have started the process of a 501C3. Our hope is to allow families to have a full heart while not having to deal with the burden of adoption costs before bringing their child home. Once we obtain approvals, we will share more.
For now, Jason and I are saving and raising funds for our personal adoption. We know in our heart that God is going to provide. We get a front row seat to watch how He does it!
Currently, we have set up an account with “Give, Send, Go” as a place to accept funds until the charity is setup which will allow for tax-exempt gifts.

We also ask for prayer during the waiting, matching, and placement process. Jason and I believe that 2025 will be a year filled with JOY in our home! We thank you for your prayer and financial support in this piece of our journey.
“Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4
Shauna,
Your updates on the journey you and Jason are on are so exciting and inspiring. Adoption is challenging but fulfilling as we have two grandsons brought into our family through adoption. We SO love and pray diligently for them. I know your family has also experienced these joys. I’m thrilled to read how God will provide for all that is in your future. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
